RUSSIAN HIGH-ALTITUDE FLIGHT SUIT VMSK-4
The Russian high-altitude flight suit VMSK-4 is similar to the SK-1, which Gagarin wore, and includes underwear. The SK-1 spacesuit served as an emergency and rescue suit that cosmonauts donned for launch and re-entry.
Interestingly, even the first spacesuits had a waste collection system, allowing cosmonauts to relieve themselves without removing the suit. In the event of cabin depressurization, these spacesuits would support cosmonauts for up to five hours.
The VMSK-4 is a model developed in subsequent years, designed to provide individual life support to spacecraft crews operating over land and sea at high altitudes. The suit features a rubberized neck drape, an original tag sewn into the inside shoulder, numerous pockets on the front side, and two pockets on the back containing GP-2M-1 gloves that are tethered to the suit. Like the SK-1, this suit also includes a waste collection system.
